NT Site Visit: DK BESS

Learn how the Darwin Katherine Battery Energy Storage System (DK BESS) is contributing to reliable power delivery for HVAC&R equipment.

The 35MVA (32.6MW) 1 hour BESS:

· Is directly connected to the grid via a 132/11 KV transformer. Consists of Control Room, Switchroom, 8 Powerstores (Inverter banks), 192 individual battery cubicles each weighing 3.5 tonnes and auxilliary systems

·Is strengthening the Darwin-Katherine electrical grid to support increased solar energy contribution

· Will reduce Territory carbon emissions by about 58,000 tonnes a year.

· Is forecast to deliver cost savings of around AU$9.8 million per year, paying for itself in less than 5 years 

 

BYO: Steel cap boots, long pants and long sleeved shirt (preferably hi-visibility).  Also safety glasses and hard hats if you have them (or they will be provided).
