Professional Diploma in Sustainable HVAC Design and Operation
This modular online course offers an advanced level of professional
development for HVAC&R and building services industry professionals. It
will provide you with unparalleled insight into sustainable HVAC systems and
operations.
Course length
24 months (full course) / 5 months (per module)
To note
Participants are required to demonstrate their competency and
understanding through knowledge assessment tasks (including
self-assessment questions, short answer question, and case studies).
There is a maximum of five months to complete each module, with an
additional four months to complete the final (full course) case study
assignment.
Overview
AIRAH's accredited Professional Diploma in Sustainable HVAC Design and
Operation addresses the full range of issues around environmentally
effective heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. It
covers sustainability considerations, responsibilities and compliance,
design principles, design considerations, design processes and
documentation, operational evaluation, and sustainable operations
management.
The online course consists of four modules:
- Principles of Sustainable HVAC Systems
- Codes, Standards, and Rating Tools
- Design of Sustainable HVAC Systems
- Maximising Sustainability in Operations
Individual modules involve approximately five months of activity.
Completion of the full course will take about two years of part-time study,
but students may design and complete their own programs across the four
modules available, relevant to their own interests and needs.
Module 1 - Principles of Sustainable HVAC Systems
This module focuses on the many factors influencing the design and selection
of sustainable HVAC systems and equipment.
- Sustainability impacts of HVAC
- Sustainable design responsibilities
- Building design parameters
- Principles of sustainability into design
Module 2 - Codes, Standards, and Rating Tools
This module aligns with current compliance and industry best-practice
requirements for sustainable HVAC design and operation.
- National Construction Code (NCC)
- Australian Standards and guidelines
- Compliance pathways
- Rating tools
Module 3 - Design of Sustainable HVAC Systems
This module addresses the design process and documentation of sustainable
HVAC systems.
- Design documentation
- Design safety and review
- Calculations, options analysis, and records
- Digital design tools and systems
Module 4 - Maximising Sustainability in Operations
The aim of this module is to provide HVAC designers with a comprehensive
knowledge of where and how energy is used in HVAC systems, and assessment
tools and techniques.
- Sustainability and energy efficiency
- Resource consumption in buildings
- Operational strategies
- Managing sustainability
Participants who undertake and pass all four modules must complete a final
case study to successfully complete the AIRAH Professional Diploma in
Sustainable HVAC Design and Operation. Participants will have four months to
complete the case study.
