About this course


This one-day course is offered as a face-to-face, online, or in-house session.

Participants receive a general knowledge on the background, history, and objectives of the ventilation Standards. The Building Ventilation course also examines the technical provisions of the Standards in detail to understand the rationale behind them.

  • Review the provisions for mechanical and natural ventilation for acceptable indoor air quality as prescribed in AS 1668.2 and AS 1668.4
  • Evaluate and apply the provisions of AS 1668.2 and AS 1668.4 to the ventilation design in a building to achieve an acceptable indoor air quality
  • Specify the requirements for supply air ventilation and filtration strategies to achieve acceptable indoor air quality
  • Recognise suitable natural ventilation principles for occupied spaces
  • Determine the requirements for exhaust air ventilation for acceptable indoor air quality
  • Establish the requirements for the natural and mechanical ventilation of car parks
  • Review the specific ventilation requirements for health care enclosures listed in AS 1668.2
  • Discuss the design responsibilities of the HVAC&R engineer, relevant to different ventilation systems
  • Consider opportunities for performance-based design solutions

Enrolment in the Building Ventilation course is capped at 25 people (face-to-face) or 15 people (online).

This course does not include any formal assessment, but participants will be involved in a number of design workshop activities relating to the course content throughout the day.

This course has been developed to place you in a good position to use and apply AS 1668.2 and AS 1668.4 confidently and correctly.

Enrolment in and completion of this course is eligible for 7.5 continuing professional development (CPD) hours. AIRAH recommends members undertake 50 hours of CPD each year.
