AIRAH statement on COVID-19

Like all organisations across Australia, AIRAH is closely monitoring developments and advice regarding the coronavirus. This is changing rapidly. Gathering people together to share ideas and discuss the most important HVAC&R issues is a large part of what we do with our conference and events program. Unfortunately, as a result of COVID-19, AIRAH has had to make the decision to suspend all scheduled events up until May 31, 2020. This includes our Industry Nights, seminars and face-to-face training dates.

The suspension also includes our Refrigeration 2020 Conference, originally slated to take place March 23–24 in Melbourne. We are working to secure new dates for this event, with more information to be announced. Over the coming fortnight, we will be sharing links to online presentations from some of our scheduled speakers – including one of our international keynote presentations – available for all AIRAH members. Please watch for news on this.

Some of our divisional events and training sessions will be rescheduled to later in the year, pending developments. Other events will become webinar/video streaming resources, joining our already scheduled DA19 HVAC&R Maintenance webinar on Thursday, March 26. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

In light of the suspension through to the end of May 2020, AIRAH is currently working on our entire program of events, training and professional development. We are, of course, cognisant of the quickly shifting landscape and will accommodate the state and federal governments’ requests in an effort to protect public health. We will let you know of our rescheduled dates/events as they become available. A full credit of any event/training registration, for use at future events/training, will be provided as necessary.

We also continue to encourage and support your professional development through our available online resources. As an online program, our Professional Diploma in Building Services – HVAC&R will go ahead. Our next semester begins on April 1, and we look forward to welcoming students through the digital platform. We also continue to offer our Professional Certificate in HVAC&R Fundamentals.

AIRAH’s official journal, Ecolibrium, will continue to be published, as will its stablemate HVAC&R Nation. Our regular e-newsletters will continue to be issued, and our websites – AIRAH and HVAC&R News – will continue to be updated. Our expanding suite of AIRAH on Air podcasts are also available to listen to.

At this moment of considerable uncertainty, it is vital AIRAH remains true to its vision of creating safe, sustainable, healthy and effective environments. The team and I are committed to continuing to deliver options for members to access information and discussions during our Centenary year. For more information and to get involved in our 2020 activities, please visit our Centenary website.

During this period of recommended social distancing, AIRAH’s staff will be working from home, through to mid-April. For any information or assistance, please email us at airah@airah.org.au

AIRAH will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation, and will provide updates to members over the coming weeks.
