Sydney's Quay Quarter Tower: A world-first sustainability innovation

Donnelly, Nunn and Saidman will present the project overview, innovations, and challenges of Quay Quarter Tower at Circular Quay in Sydney. For their Outlook 2020 keynote address, they will also offer insight into its technical HVAC and sustainable design challenges.

At concept, this project outlined a high-level sustainability target. Commenced in 2015, Quay Quarter Tower has evolved throughout the design and construction process to enable it to both meet and exceed current industry practices. It is also a world-first, with around two-thirds of the building’s original core retained through the construction process, resulting in a carbon saving of 6.1 million kilograms – equivalent to approximately 35,000 Sydney to Melbourne flights.

About Nunn:
Nunn initially trained and worked as an environmental lawyer, before moving into sustainability consulting in the building sector. He has 20 years' experience in sustainability, with expertise in environmental law, sustainability consultancy, green building design and operations, sustainability rating systems, corporate sustainability strategy and reporting. Nunn’s current role as Head of Sustainability at AMP Capital Real Estate involves working with the funds management team to set sustainability – environment, social and governance or ESG – strategies; engaging with key stakeholders within and outside the business to communicate sustainability performance and initiatives; supporting investment and property managers to develop asset-level ESG plans; overseeing energy procurement; representing AMP Capital Real Estate through industry bodies; and overseeing sustainability reporting including quarterly ESG updates to investors for each fund and an annual submission of the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) survey.
