Unintended consequences of airtight buildings on fire safety
Can an airtight building trap a person during a fire? Recent fire incidents and studies from overseas suggest that this is possible. This presentation explores the impact on fire dynamics (in particular fire generated pressurisation) from increased airtightness of the building envelope. The presentation also analyses the airtightness data of 75 recently completed multi-residential buildings in Australia to answer the question: is this an Australian problem?
