To apply for accreditation as an AIRAH Registered Professional Engineer, ARPEng will require evidence that you have the required qualifications, knowledge and professional experience and competence.

The eligibility requirements for ARPEng were established to exceed the international standard for engineer registration. They are also aligned with the requirements of the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland’s (BPEQ) requirements for Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) status.

To be eligible for AIRAH Registered Professional Engineer (ARPEng) status you must:




Be a financial member of AIRAH
and provide proof of identity

Your AIRAH membership must remain valid for the duration of your ARPEng accreditation.

You must provide proof of identity that meets the requirements of the 100-point identity check.

Have completed an acceptable qualification in one of the engineering disciplines

Applicable qualifications include:

  • A four-year, full-time Bachelor of Engineering or a Master of Engineering from an accredited Australian institution
  • A part-time equivalent degree
  • A previously recognised historical equivalent qualification
  • A qualification gained elsewhere that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.

Have work experience, competence and commitment

You will need to:

  • Have been working in the field of Mechanical Engineer – HVAC&R for a minimum of five years
  • Have the relevant work experience
  • Be able to demonstrate that this has translated into competence and commitment in your discipline.
