Why is HVAC&R important?
We rely on HVAC&R in just about all aspects of our daily lives. The cold milk in the fridge for the morning coffee; the air conditioned trains and buses to get to work; the air conditioning in the office; and ventilation system for fire stairs, carparks, shopping centres and commercial kitchens. If you take away HVAC&R from our daily life, you would be amazed how big an impact it has.

What do you do, and what is the most satisfying aspect of your work?
I’m a sustainability consultant with a focus on existing buildings and energy efficiency. HVAC&R represents a significant portion of energy consumption and operating costs in commercial buildings. By helping clients to identify areas of improvement, I can reduce their energy consumption and operating costs, and reduce their impact on the environment.

What will you be doing to celebrate World Refrigeration Day?

I’ll highlight the importance of the HVAC&R industry, as it is an integral part of our daily life without us realising it. I’ll spread the word about a hidden industry that we all depend on, though know very little about.
