Building Physics 2019 aiming to push the envelope ever further

AIRAH is seeking ideas and presentations for Building Physics 2019. Slated for October 23–24 in Melbourne, the Forum will investigate and discuss air movement, thermal performance, and the control of moisture across building envelopes – pivotal topics in improving building performance.

The technical organising committee is now calling for abstracts on a range of subjects. Some suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

Air tightness, thermal bridging and the building envelope
Building and architecture challenges – failures and lessons learnt
Linking design, building fabric, and HVAC systems
Thermally broken façades
Building physics in smart homes
Highly insulated and air-sealed buildings 
Human comfort and building health
Total cost of ownership (TCO) and impact on durability
Controlling solar gains in highly insulated and air-sealed buildings
Performance issues such as thermal overheating and summer undercooling.

“Over recent years there have been considerable questions raised about building envelopes, as well their construction and integrity in relation to air leakage and moisture control,” says AIRAH CEO Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH. 

“And there is also a substantial amount of research and work happening in isolation around the country and overseas. The Building Physics Forum is an opportunity for stakeholders, knowledge seekers and influencers within the building physics community to gather, share knowledge and network under the AIRAH umbrella.

“Given the rise in prominence of Passivhaus buildings, and the fact Australia has just experienced its hottest summer on record, there is no better time to be thinking about building physics and its relationship not just with energy efficiency and with our health and comfort, but with our very future on this planet.”
