Find your way with Section J: Apply mechanical services codes and standards to HVAC system design

As an industry professional you carry a tremendous responsibility to understand and implement the regulations and technical provisions of the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

AIRAH is offering you an ‘all you need to know’ guide to building control in Australia and the legislative processes for building designs and approvals through our BCA seminar.

Seminar summary

Industry best practice requirements for energy efficient HVAC design and operation.

This one day seminar provides an analysis and open discussion of Section J of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) energy efficiency requirements and a summary of the verification requirements.

Australian Standards related to HVAC design are analysed to determine their impact on energy efficiency and the two prominent environmental rating tools used in today’s non residential market, NABERS (National Australian Building Environment Rating System) scheme and Green Star, are appraised to identify their implication on energy efficient HVAC design.

Key topics

The course consists of three key topics that address the various aspects
of the codes and standards for HVAC systems design. These include:

Australian codes and standards

• Section J of the Building Code of Australia

• Deemed to Satisfy
• Verification Methods

• Australian standards relating to HVAC design

NABERS* (National Australian Built Environment Rating System)

• NABERS and its role in benchmarking environmental performance of
  class 5 office buildings.

GreenStar and the Green Building Council of Australia

• Requirements of the GreenStar protocol for Office Design version 2.0
that may impact on HVAC design.

Interactive workshop - case study (Applying principles discussed above to a case study).

*ABGR – is now known as NABERS

AIRAH Graduate Certificate program

This course content is based on the module “Apply mechanical services codes and standards to HVAC system design”, which is part of the AIRAH Vocational Graduate Certificate in Energy Efficient HVAC design (module VPAU234).

Completion of this one day seminar does not constitute completion of module VPAU234, however participants will find the seminar will assist with preparation for the graduate certificate assessments.
