Psychrometrics

Psychrometrics unveils the physical and thermodynamic properties of gas-vapour mixtures.

Do you rely on your computer output for this information? Understanding psychrometrics and its application is a crucial component of good HVAC design.

Use the chart to understand a range of air conditioning processes and considerations. Use that understanding to verify computer modelling and heat load calculations.

This practical course will teach you how to read a psychrometric chart, plot air conditioning processes, and calculate supply air quantities and temperatures.  Real world examples will be analysed and worked through.

This course is provided face-to-face, as well as online, with the option online to study either Psychrometric Theory and Psychrometric Processes, or both.

Psychrometrics (Face-to-face)

Key topics

  • Basic calculations and chart plotting
  • Mixing of air streams
  • Typical air conditioning systems
  • Use of ratios for plotting SH/LH/TH
  • Psychrometrics and human comfort
  • Real world examples

Designed for

  • Graduates who need to learn psychrometric principles
  • Engineers to refresh their knowledge

Facilitator

John Bosci, F.AIRAH, worked in the building services industry for close to 40 years. John began in contracting as a draftsman, moving to site engineer, construction supervisor, design and construct tendering, and building. He then moved to an engineering consultancy and progressed from design engineer to office manager and finally to CEO, with responsibility for 17 offices throughout Australia and South-East Asia.

John’s personal experience includes a wide range of projects, including hotels, hospitals, high-rise offices and casinos. The diversity of John's business and cultural experiences, together with the often disparate geographical locations, required broad knowledge in a range of air conditioning approaches, together with a detailed exposure to specific psychrometric needs.

Psychrometrics (Online)

Psychrometric Theory

Learn how human comfort fits in with the psychrometric chart, how to read the chart, how to plot basic air conditioning processes and calculate supply air quantities and temperatures.

Psychrometric Processes

Use the psychrometric chart to understand a range of air conditioning processes and considerations including equipment heat gains, mixing air streams, sensible heat ratios and calculations for typical air conditioning systems.

Length of course/Duration
