International Refrigeration Day (IRD)

International Refrigeration Day (IRD) is celebrated annually on April 17, which marks the anniversary of James Harrison’s birthday on April 17, 1816. Harrison is known as the founding father of refrigeration. He was the first to create ice via mechanical means, laying the foundation for the Australian HVAC&R industry.

About International Refrigeration Day (IRD)

International Refrigeration Day (IRD) is intended to encourage practitioners and organisations worldwide that manufacture, design, install, and maintain refrigeration equipment and services to schedule some type of recognition event within their own organisations or coordinated locally with others to truly demonstrate appreciation for the achievements of the refrigeration industry.

This website provides a forum to share ideas, contacts, information, and resources to help you get your organisation's IRD off and running, and to help people in your area to receive acknowledgement and appreciation for their work in the refrigeration industry.

If your organisation is planning an event to commemorate International Refrigeration Day, please contact airah@airah.org.au to have your event posted on our announcement board and through other AIRAH communications.

Suggested events:
Internal company meetings, presentations about the value of project management, recognition breakfasts, lunches or receptions honouring teams, local government recognition, coordinated professional association events or recognition at previously scheduled events.

Goal:
World-wide recognition of the many people and organisations who contribute their time, energy, creativity, innovation, and countless hours to deliver products, services, facilities, and provide refrigeration services in every city and community around the world.

IRD is celebrated on April 17 each year.

Please join us to celebrate on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
