Overview

You can’t help but be impressed with the progress and ingenuity shown in the latest high-performance buildings. Indeed, environmentally sustainable design for new structures has moved ahead at a bewildering rate. Yet now it’s time that our existing building stock started to catch up.

That’s why AIRAH’s Pre-loved Buildings Conference is so important. The conference will be held in Melbourne from November 19-20.

Between 95 to 98 per cent of all buildings in Australia are “pre-loved”. That is, they are at least a few years old. Some are tired, some are shabby, some are just plain run down. And very few if any of them are designed with sustainability in mind.

“Updating the existing building stock in Australia has become the most urgent of priorities,” says AIRAH technical manager Phil Wilkinson. “They represent an obvious area where improvements can be made, efficiencies achieved and dollars saved.”

Partnered by Sustainability Victoria, the conference will focus on optimising the sustainable performance of pre-loved buildings, including:

  • Keynote address on pre-loved buildings from Mick Pearce – world-renowned architect behind CH2 (Melbourne)
  • A world first – An Australian Study showing the relationship of technical features and management practices on building performance
  • Leading-edge case studies
  • Building optimisation – making the most of controls
  • Indoor air quality versus sustainability objectives
  • Total carbon modelling
  • Retrofitting occupied buildings

Delegates are also entitled to a FREE registration at an industry-first interactive forum session “The Essential Elements to Lead the Australian Pre-loved Building Market – 2010 and beyond”. This dynamic event will provide delegates with the opportunity to workshop key topics and developments with their industry peers. The outcomes from this session will provide you with practical guidelines to use back at your workplace.
