AIRAH ARC Assessment program

Overview

The AIRAH ARC assessment program is for those with a temporary 'experienced persons' license from the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) who need to go through a recognition of prior learning process to gain their full license.

The assessment process requires candidates to complete an appropriate recognition of prior learning (RPL) preliminary assessment kit and sit a competency based assessment. These assessments are scheduled in towns all over Australia.

The assessment will occur at the locale the candidate has chosen. The assessment includes answering a series of multiple choice questions, finding faults on operational air conditioning and refrigeration simulators, and interacting with AIRAH’s team of qualified and experienced assessors.

Once candidates have gone through this process, one of two things will happen:

If the assessors are satisfied of the candidate's full competency, they’ll be granted the certificate needed to get the appropriate ARC license,

OR

If the assessors find some areas where the candidate is not yet competent, they ’ll need to do some additional training before they can get the certificate. The candidate will be eligible for a 12 month ARC training license whilst they complete any training requirements.

What is RPL?

The program will ask candidates to determine whether they already have the key competencies they need. Candidates need to prove their competency by providing evidence and supporting documentation of their work experience - recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Copies of any documents used as evidence must be certified* and verification is required for examples of your past work. Statutory declarations need to accompany references and work records.

The type of evidence that will support applications includes certified copies of qualifications/certificates/statements of results, examples of work performed (written or photographic, with verification), work records, professional references/employer statements of competence (with statutory declaration), demonstration of skills (at TAFE or on-the-job) and demonstration of knowledge (tests or interview).
It is important that each piece of work is independently confirmed as having been done by the candidate.

* Certification is the process where an authorised person (a police officer, for example) has to write ‘this is a true and correct copy…’ and sign. AIRAH cannot recognise any copies of documents that don’t carry this certification.
